Why train on a crate? Essentially, any exercise that involves a dynamic transition from force absorption to force application is a plyometric exercise. So if you jump in place, you are performing a plyometric exercise. To put it a little more technically and using jumping in place as an example, when landing from a jump, your thighs will be tense all the time (technically we are talking about eccentric muscle contraction) and then transfer all the power down through an immediate muscle contraction (concentric muscle contraction). This pattern of muscle contraction is known as the stretch-contraction cycle. The muscles are able to generate huge amounts of force in this way during plyometric activities. This type of training is therefore an excellent way to develop speed, strength and agility.
